ST. PETER AND VATICAN MUSEUMS – ROME GUIDES
With the St. Peter and Vatican Museums Private Tour we will access the Vatican City State, which today represents the pulsating centre of the Catholic Church.
THE BASILICA
The St. Peter’s Basilica, built in the 4th Century by Constantine over the tomb of the Apostle, was entirely rebuilt in the Renaissance by extraordinary architects such as Bramante and Michelangelo. In the middle of the Baroque period, it was then preceded by an exceptional vestibule: the Bernini’s famous elliptical square, surrounded by the marvellous colonnade.
The Vatican Basilica is not only a religious building, but a real museum, with artistic masterpieces as the Pietà, sculpted by Michelangelo Buonarroti, the huge bronze canopy designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and the incredible amount of mosaics decorating the walls: our Guides will give you the opportunity to discover all these monumental decorations, examining their history and all the details.
You can admire St. Peter’s Basilica, together with the other three major Basilicas of Rome, also during our Main Basilicas Tour.
